14- GALLEGUITA

As we said about Cuba, in Argentina there are so many Galicians that all Spaniards, no matter what region they come from are called “gallegos” (Galicians).

As history has shown us, immigrants world wide have struggled and worker hard. Some have had to fight harder than others to just to put food on the table and live. In this sad tango, Gardel sings about a “Galleguita” (a young Galician girl) who was prostituted to be able to send money to her old mother back home. We can hear it sung here by León Gieco and the Chieftains.

In that concert they also performed Gieco’s great hit, “Solo le pido a Dios”.
